STEP 1 Cutting

Cut a stopped groove for Swifsash balances 16mm wide by 18mm deep in each side of each sash, stopping 30mm from each end.

NOTE: Sashes heavierthan 20kgs (40lbs) are likely to need 2
balances each side, requiring a 32mm wide groove. Always check with us before cutting.

Important: Allow total clearance of 6 to 10mm between sash and frame to allow for smooth running, and to accomodate normal timber movement etc.

Step 2: Fitting

Fit the balance into channel and screw to sash through fixing
holes in Swifsash balance. Keep the balance asclose to the botttom of the sash as possible.

NOTE: The end of the balance containing the pulley wheels and the zinc tie-on should always be at the bottom of the sash,
whether it be a top sash or a bottom sash.

Step 3: Fixing clips to window frame
Rout four grooves, 16mm wide by 60mm long and 10mm deep in window frame, two in each side.
The position of the fixing clip grooves for the top sash should generally be 20-50mm up from the bottom of the Swifsash balance when it is in the closed position. The position of the fixing clip grooves for the bottom sash should generally be 20-
50mm lower than the top of the Swifsash balance when it is in the closed position.
NOTE: For very heavy sashes with limited travel single balances, eg. 34ins. balances with 28ins. travel, then the bottom sash clips will have to be placed 6ins. lower in the frame. These will still remain invisible as there will be a stop
put on the lower sash travel.
Step 4: Framing
The top sash is fitted first. Lay the window frame flat. Using a board between, lay the top sash on the frame.
Using the Swifsash spring tool with open hook facing sash, hook zinc tie on through its eye and pull almost all string out in direction of the clips and attach securely and carefully.

IMPORTANT
Never pull string out of the balance in the wrong direction. The Dacron string must always be allowed run on the pulley wheel, otherwise it will be damaged
and frayed if pulled against metal.
The longer the string pulled out at the least angle to the pulley wheel, will help avoid string getting fouled by slipping off the pulley wheel.

Remove board and sit sash into frame carefully making sure that Dacron strings are freely running on pulleywheels at all times.

Install parting bead.
Step 5: Fitting Bottom Sash
Fit bottom sash using the same procedure.

Always use the special Swifsash Tool for pulling the Dacron cord ends.
