HOW TO MAKE A MAINTENANCE FREE TIMBER WINDOW WITH A 10 YEAR GUARANTEE

A The certified timber used for the window sections must be seasoned (Scandinavian
Redwood or similar from forests managed in harmony with “Forestry Stewartship
Council”), machined (without any sharp corners) into components and treated
prior to their assembly.
B The bottom platform on which the double glazed unit will be positioned can be flat or
have a downward sloping angle to the exterior of between 6-8 degrees.
C The windows when assembled must be coated with microporus stain on all surfaces
in accordance with coating manufacturers instructions.
D The double glazed unit (minimum width 20mm),must sit on flat or angled setting
blocks (ref:ASB or FSB ), ensuring free movement of air. For new Posilok with
combined Anchoring ‘n’ Setting Blocks.
E The windows must be factory glazed using closed cell externally sheathed EPDM Dry
Glaze Tape. DO NOT under any circumstances use silicone, putty or mastic.
F An aluminium powder coated bottom ventilated bead with joint protecting End Caps -
Posilok - see page 25 & 28,must be fitted. The side and top beads are secured by an unseen
locking mechanism which avoids damage to the stained surface by nailing or screwing -
Securbead or Lokbead - To:- BS:7950/644.
NOTE: Timber bottom beads trap moisture causing decay and D.G. unit failure.
Their cubic size is too small to resist U.V. light and heat etc. It is the wrong material in
the wrong place.
G The windows when finished must be shrink wrapped for delivery to the site and the
protective wrapping only removed upon the total completion of the Building.
